I have only read one chapter of the book so far and Im finding it a bit hard to understand everything. I dont understand why Bruno and his family have to move because of the new job Bruno's dad got.
I read 4 chapters and they are very interesting. So far i understand everything. Some thing what i don't like is that Bruno is not talking about everything .i don't like when narrator is talking . One question what i have is what Bruno can see from his window ???
Marthe-- they have to move because the job is very far away. It is like your family-- you moved because your father's job is here in the UAE. Bruno's family has to move because his father's job is in another city, located very far from Berlin.
Orjan-- Very good question-- but we haven't read the answer to that question yet. :-P
Filip-- You must be way ahead of the rest of us-- because we have not read about the window yet. Bruno sees something that he comes to believe is a farm with many workers. However, Bruno is very wrong. It is not a farm at all. What do you think it could be? Think about the time period of the story and the country that they are living in....
Filip-- Do you mean "Who is Herr Roller?" Herr Roller was a neighbor that they had in Berlin. He isn't a main character, but rather one that is introduced to teach Bruno to be kind to EVERYONE and not make judgments based on actions. He was being taught to get to know people and to understand them before he makes a judgment about that person or those people. -Ms. Clancy
yep i wanted to write who.New question why mum said to pavel that if some one ask how halped to bruno he need to say that she halped him?Onother question is is grandmother don't like that his son get better position? Is it becauce war is starting and if someone need to make decision that is maybe going to be him.Than he is going to be maybe guilty for killing a people??? By the way I finish a this part of book. :)
The mother didn't want Pavel to tell anyone that he had helped Bruno for many reasons, but the biggest one was to protect both Pavel and Bruno. Pavel is Jewish and a man that has been put in the concentration camp, which complicates the whole situation. How are the Jewish people treated? What would Bruno's father think about a Jewish man helping Bruno?
Mother also wants to keep Bruno as innocent as possible. She doesn't want him to know what the camp is really for. She doesn't want him to know what really happens there. AND, she doesn't want him to start to form the same judgments that Bruno's father makes.
I believe that Mother is a compassionate woman who doesn't agree with Father or other issues, but she has to be brave in order to protect her children.
The grandmother doesn't agree with the whole war. She doesn't believe all the things that people are saying, and she doesn't support the political regime. Grandmother thinks the treatment of the Jewish people, as well as others that were being targeted was wrong. She hated that her son was in such a high position and was using his power to hurt people.
I am glad that you are done with that portion of the book-- BUT you are not going to get the next part until your questions are answered (in your booklet). It will be beneficial for you to REREAD so that you can pick up more details from the first part of the book.
